Wellness
Try
to imagine that your body is like a dam and that the rain is the
stress in your life. I mean physical, emotional, dietry and
environmental. Now since we all have stress, to varying degrees,
we can’t stop it from raining. As a result eventually our dam
fills up and then starts to overflow. This is equivalent to early
symptoms. If ignored the dam wall will break and you land up in my
clinic in severe pain. We then start the process as set out below
to rebuild the dam, but to prevent further occurrences we need to
open the sluice gates on a regular basis to release some water out
of the dam and down the river. This is the effect of a
regular preventative WELLNESS treatment.
Wellness is usually monthly treatments, but in time can be
extended to once every two or perhaps even three months.
We
are all taught from the cradle to the grave that, “if we are
hurting, we need to do something about it, and if we are not, then
we are OK”. You must understand that the presence or absence of
symptoms (usually pain) is not a criterion of your total health.
You will usually get rid of your symptoms before you get rid of
your problem.
1.
THE RELIEF / CRISIS
CONTROL PHASE:
- The goal in this stage is to obtain relief from the acute
symptoms as quickly as possible. Frequent adjustments are
required during this initial period of about four weeks.
2. THE
STABILISING / STRENGTHENING PHASE:
- Once the acute symptoms have been brought under control, the
goal is to stabilize the spinal misalignments whilst the initial
tissue healing takes place. In accomplishing this, the early
return of the original symptoms is greatly reduced. Visits become
less frequent as spinal stability improves in weeks 5-8.
3. THE
RECONSTRUCTIVE / REHABILITATIVE PHASE:
- This phase deals with rebuilding and
restoring the normal nerve and structural functions of the whole
body by spinal manipulations and health education. The frequency
of treatments depends on the amount of rehab required, and the
rate of healing of your own body in weeks 9-12.
4.
THE PREVENTATIVE / MAINTENANCE PHASE:
- Once improved function has been restored, it is important
that it be maintained. Joints are designed for one thing only
i.e. movement. Any joint which is not moving properly (this can
be too much or too little movement) will begin to deteriorate.
Regular spinal checks reveal any changes or deterioration taking
place and allows for prompt intervention before more serious
problems develop. The frequency of visits may vary from once a
month to once every three months, depending upon various factors
associated with your condition.
IF
YOU WANT TO OBTAIN THE MAXIMUM HEALTH NOW AND HAVE THE GREATEST
WELLNESS POSSIBLE IN THE FUTURE, THEN ALL FOUR PHASES OF CARE ARE
NECESSARY.
